The Glendale Model Railroad Club took an all-day outing to visit model railroaders in Ridgecrest, California, up in the high desert north of Los Angeles.

Naturally, we rode in style on a luxury tour bus. The bus owner is a model railroading friend and came along for the visit and fun.

Club member Paul Koehler regaled us as master of ceremonies.

Here we are bouncing along a one lane dirt road in Ridgecrest out in the desert. It was worth it, though.

Our layout visit was to the Sierra Western, a large HO layout almost as big as our whole club layout. Here is our host Terry Haven explaining the railroad's concept.

Wow! What a control panel, huh?

Clubmembers Chris and Tom are operating one of the yards. Chris is the intense one, Tom is the cool one.

We got a great tour of the back shops at our host's place.

Yes, there was even an outdoor railroad, and we all got rides.

We ended our trip with a dinner at the steakhouse in Indian Wells, a historic stage stop in the high desert. Then, the bus ride home with plenty of libations on board! What a great trip!!
