The
Glendale Model Railroad Club took a weekend outing to visit ghost tracks
of the old Southern Pacific Narrow Gauge Railroad up in the high desert
north of Los Angeles.

Walking along the old right of way on the desert floor of the Owens Valley.
We are pretty strung out.

Eureka! We found an old ruin -- some kind of old railroad facility.
Cruising
up the local roads looking for more old railroad sites. Blasting down
dirt roads is fun!

Wow! Old number 18 of the S.P. Narrow Gauge on display at the town of
Independence, along the old line.

Scoping it out through the barbed wire and chain link. Penned up like
a big old dangerous animal, a roaring snorting wailing whistling steam
engine. Maybe she'll run again someday!

Here at the railroad museum in Laws is old number 9, with a train.

We can climb on Number 9! What a gem. A handsome little ten-wheeler.

We caught some current main line railroading at Tehachapi before heading
home.
Loading the trucks at the clubhouse before leaving. The little 2-man send-off
party in the back wishes they could go, too. Tim and Joe wrestle with
a tarp.

Rushing around getting ready to go. Yeah, right. Scott (rear) and James
(facing camera) are waiting.
